So why would someone be interested in DIY shelf when they could just as easily go to the neighboring hardware store and obtain something ready made? Is making your own shelves truly the right way to go?
Almost everything I’ve built has been a unusual design in certain way. One of our children wished a shelf above her bunk bed that would fit her Barbie dolls in a specific way. The final result was in her precise preference of colors, the accurate size she wished, and with the exact combination of cubes and open shelving. Buying that in a store would most certainly been completely impossible. This is why you could build wood shelving with your own hands.
It’s a lot cheaper to assemble your own shelves. In case I’m designing something ordinary, like a conventional bookcase, I work the project around the proportions of a typical wood panel and certify that the pieces are cut down in a special way, which gives me surplus wood for further constructions. Compared to the price tag of purchasing a similar bookcase in the store, I always save a lot of money.
And I do not always have to pay money for new wood. One of my present constructions is a storage space unit which fits about and above the toilet in the girl’s bathing room. I’m creating it from an old wardrobe that a fellow citizen was kicking out. Including the hardware, the whole thing will run me around $13. Beat that if you know how to. And for a second time, this isn’t a normal task, it’s constructed to measure for specific dimensions and I basically couldn’t visit a shop and purchase something that would take advantage of the space.
As well as saving me cash and saving a tree or two, I get a tremendous sense of satisfaction from building my personal glass corner shelves and storage space constructions . I have a little woodworking space in a garden shed and I find it very relaxing to waste an hour or two out there getting productive. It’s real quality time, and even my kid enjoys making use of actual tools as an alternative to his toy set. The kids also learn safety and responsibility, it’s a beneficial thing to entire household!
